Refuge Update

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Publication Available Online

The Fish and Wildlife Service publication, "Refuge Update" is available online by clicking on the picture to the right.  The publication has many interesting articles concerning the current state of the refuge system.  An archive of older volumes of the publication are also available online.  One article of interest in the November/December 2009 volume detailed some of the work that is being done to restore the Assateague Lighthouse.

Open Pipes Are Death Traps!!
Kern River Preserve has published a flyer warning landowners that open vertical pipes can become death traps for small birds, lizards, and mammals.  Please take steps to remove, cap, or screen any open pipes on your property.  Click here to view the Kern Audubon flyer for more information (Adobe Format).

Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge provides many fun-filled, educational guided programs, primarily during the summer months.  Click here to see what's on the schedule for this week at the refuge!



Turn Your Radio On!!
The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is now on the air!  When approaching the east side of Chincoteague, tune your radio to 1610 AM.  The station is now announcing the operating hours, special notices about current visitor programs, and other interesting information about the refuge.  During the tourist season, helpful information about the status of beach parking lots will also be broadcast.
