Volunteer Opportunities

If you love wildlife, working in the outdoors, interacting with visitors, or just want to help preserve and protect the environment in some way, then have we got opportunities for you!!  By joining the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge volunteer staff, you can make a tremendous difference in the quality of life on the refuge - for critters and visitors alike!  Maybe you'd like to participate in a wildlife survey or census, record scientific data, construct new refuge facilities, or maintain existing trails and wildlife habitat.

If indoor activities are more to your liking, you could help out at the Visitor Center.  If you like to interact with people, perhaps you'd like to join the volunteers that staff the information desk at the Visitor Center.  You could help maintain the displays, give interpretive talks, or do important office/clerical work.

Training for each of these opportunities will be provided by U. S. Fish & Wildlife Staff and experienced fellow volunteers.

If you're interested in serving as a volunteer, or just want more information about current needs at the refuge, please contact the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge Volunteer Coordinator at
P. O. Box 62, Chincoteague, VA 23336 or call (757) 336-6122.
