Saturday At The Refuge
The CNHA Membership Committee has scheduled some very interesting speakers for the 2010 season! During the spring months, short informative presentations will be made on Saturday afternoons from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Herbert H. Bateman Visitor Center on the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. Each program will be followed by time for questions and discussion, tea, and cookies. Programs are free and open to the public. Access to the Refuge will be free to anyone coming for the talks.
March 20 - Gary Turnquist is a retired archaeologist who lives in Chincoteague. He is a volunteer consultant to the refuge on cemetary and historic issues. Mr. Turnquist will present a talk entitled "Cemeteries on Assateague and Chincoteague Islands".
April 17 - Terry Howard, Chincoteague Town Councilman, will present a talk on Chincoteague Island history entitled "Chincoteague Then and Now".
May 15 - Rick Smith, a Chincoteague historian and genealogist, will present a talk on local history entitled "The African American History of Chincoteague Island".

Annual Members Meeting Scheduled - May 22nd
The annual CNHA members meeting is scheduled to be held on May 22nd at 10:00 AM. The meeting will convene in the auditorium of the Herbert H. Bateman Educational and Administrative Center on the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. At this meeting, the minutes from last year's meeting will be read and approved. Elections to the CNHA Board of Directors will also take place at the meeting. Following the business session, a light lunch will be served in the classroom of the Bateman Center.

First Friday Talks
The CNHA Membership committee, chaired by Ms Barbara Thackray, has scheduled the third annual series of First Friday talks at the Herbert H. Bateman Educational and Administrative Center auditorium. Informative talks are scheduled for 7:00 PM on the first Friday of each month from June through September. Admission to the Refuge is free after 6:00 PM for anyone attending the talks. Remember to put the following dates on your calendar:
June 4 - Dr. Tony Picardi will present a talk entitled "Global Warming and Butterflies," which will focus on the accelerating global warming trend's impact on North American butterflies and what we can do about it.
July 2 - John Amrhein, author of the book "The Hidden Galleon," will present a talk entitled "The Voyage of La Galga, 1750," the intriguing story of the demise of a Spanish warship.
August 6 - Dr. Donald Shomette is an author and maritime archaeologist who has focused on underwater archaeology and maritime history. Dr. Shomette will share insight into historic events in his talk entitled "History Under the Waves."
September 3 - Gretchen Knapp, a U. S. National Park Service Ranger assigned to the Assateague Island National Seashore, will present a talk entitled "Ecology of Assateague Island".
